I’d Live Here – Cotswold Barn

Two things… Cotswold and Barn. All I can say is yes please. This incredible barn remodel, if you can call it that. I cannot imagine what it looked like before. The results are stunning and have made it absolutely clear to me that I need a Cotswold Barn in my life.

There is great lighting in every single room pictured. Every Single One. This would make my husband do jumps for joy. Because of the magnificent lighting you could probably decorate each inch of this home any way you want and it would still look gorgeous.

I must say that I am pretty content with its current state. All of the clean spaces, exposed beams, neutral/natural elements. I could definitely get used to my future Cotswold home being something like this.

The whole feel is very summer home-y. I can imagine a hoard of kids, a few dogs, and fun memories running through the house. See what I mean about needing a Cotswold barn?

The mixture of modern, classic, and rustic materials gives the home a new but old feel. Like there is history surrounding everything, but you can’t see the age.

A Rustic Home

A Rustic Home // Could Be Interesting

If you have been reading my blog for a while you have probably noticed a couple things… I dig white and I love the idea of a rustic home. I’ve mentioned my love a barns a few times. My bed is covered in white linen and all of the furniture in my room is either white or natural wood. While I was doing so spring cleaning I thought came up with some ideas of items that would add to the comfort and aesthetic of the house. So of course, I popped over to Etsy to cruise some of my favorite vintage house ware shops. These we a few of the items that caught my eye.

Top Row: Enamel Mugs // Vintage Wire Basket // Vintage French Bottle Drying Rack

Middle Row: Grey & White Stripe Botanical Sachets // Vintage Soviet Milk Bottles

Bottom Row: Natural French Linen Towel // Oval Wire Pendant Light // Large Edwardian Enamel Bowl

Making the Jump

Google Reader is retiring as of July 1st. I am sure this isn’t the first time you have heard this news. The announcement created a bit of an uproar leading to panic for lots of blog/site followers. I must admit I went through some sort of grief. From shock to disappointment, followed by some anger and resentment that had me giving my google reader the cold shoulder. But then I put things in perspective and realized I wasn’t punishing google I was simply missing out on all the great content published by my favorite blogs. So, I entered the recovery stage and started my search for a new ‘reader’.

All you need to do is type “google reader alternatives” into your search bar to get some reading material and comparisons for other rss readers. Which I did. News Blur,  Feedly,  Net Vibes, and Pulse were the top four I read through. While all of them have individual pros and cons, I settled with Feedly. And I am pretty happy with the decision.

Feedly automatically transferred all of my google reader information and we were all set up. The clean layout, customization, and design are the top reasons I settled on Feedly.

Reading through my reader.

You can see I have 6 categories that break up my readings and I can choose to read ALL unread posts, all categorized unread posts, or individual site posts. This feature cuts back the time I spend each day reading through the content. The organization is key for me, otherwise I would spend hours looking through the awesome content people are putting out there.

They also give you the option to change your theme. I stuck with the default “Modern Gray” but there were a couple contenders that I might give another shot.

Feedly Blue Grey Theme // Could Be Interesting

So along with the clean features, I really jumped when I was given options on how I would like to read the content. With 5 options ranging from just the title to the full article I went through and realized you can make these setting for all the content or go through and individually customize your reading options for each blog you read. So all of this took me about an hour to get a feel for and I am sure I will continue to mess with the settings and everything. It’s like new adventure.

So if you are on the hunt for a new reader, I would suggest you check out Feedly.

Currently Crushing – Wood Herringbone

The sometimes overwhelming search for out own little South Laguna cottage has left me checking listings every day. Every. Single. Day. Which isn’t so bad since it’s part of what I do and it amounts to lots of daydreaming. In my recent search I stumbled on a beautiful little cottage that while not quite financially possible, there’s still dreaming right?  The cottage featured a little detail that I couldn’t get out of my mind, vintage herringbone floors. I spent time dreaming of those beautiful wood floors. So now I’ve been obsessing over gorgeous wood floors dreaming of future home details to keep tucked away.

I love the idea of spending time laying down a wood floor that would hold so many memories for our family. Yes, a floor, it’s crazy to think that a simple (well sort or simple) detail could make a home so special. But in this instance it does.

The combination of modern and shabby chic accents is really unique. It all flows together nicely. I’m a fan

I especially love the wood plank wall in the bedroom. It’s pretty epic.

“1canoe2 letterpress is the stuff dreams are made of – Carrie and Beth are childhood friends who always loved to draw. Now the two are all grown-up and work together as professional illustrators, designers and printers. The name 1canoe2 comes from years of the two dreaming up big ideas around a campfire and floating down a spring-fed Missouri river in a canoe. Two girls, one canoe. One canoe, two. Carrie and Beth were just beginning their journey as a letterpress company when they asked Carrie’s sister-in-law Karen to join the team. Now three women strong, 1canoe2 is chasing bigger dreams and creating letterpress art that makes people happy.”

Trying my hand at calligraphy

I recently purchased THIS amazing calligraphy set from LineaCarta’s Etsy Shop. There are some seriously talented people out there who create incredible art with their calligraphy. You have probably seen them all over my pinterest.

So I made the jump in hopes to get a little more creative with my work. Here is where I started. . .

Currently Crushing – Emerson Made

It’s been pretty chilly around these parts lately. I know that sounds wimpy  but when you live at the beach you get used to beach weather. I remember January’s spent down at West Street Beach, not freezing inside.

I will say the one advantage to the cold weather is wearing warm winter clothes. Something that Southern California residents don’t get to do each winter. While looking at some wool shawls, camel coats and blazers I developed quite the wish list from Emerson Made’s Fall line.
